  • Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or light, interrupted sleep, are common.

  • One may become underweight, have poor circulation, and a sense of being ungrounded.

Pitta Dosha

Characteristics: Metabolism and Transformation
Qualities: Hot, sharp, light, liquid, mobile, oily
Functions: Governs digestion, absorption, assimilation, nutrition, metabolism, and body temperature.
When in Balance:

  • Pitta types exhibit a strong intellect and a strong ability to concentrate.

  • They possess a warm body temperature, a strong metabolism, good digestion, and strong appetites.

  • They often have a lustrous complexion and perfect digestion.

  • Emotionally, they are passionate and enterprising, with a sharp wit.

  • They sleep soundly for short periods and have a strong sex drive.

  • Pitta can create excessive heat in the body, manifesting as inflammation, fever, a burning sensation, and infections.

  • Physically, one might encounter skin rashes, burning sensations, peptic ulcers, sour stomach, heartburn, and overeating.

  • Pitta imbalances can also lead to premature graying or thinning of the hair.

Kapha Dosha

Characteristics: Cohesion and Stability
Qualities: Heavy, slow, cool, oily, smooth, dense, soft, stable, gross, cloudy
Functions: Maintains body strength and immunity, and provides the body's structure.
When in Balance:

  • Kapha types are strong, with sturdy, heavier builds, and have excellent stamina.

  • They sleep deeply and have regular digestion.

  • They are calm, thoughtful, and loving; they have an inherent ability to enjoy life and are comfortable with routine.

  • Their skin is often smooth and oily with a pale complexion.

  • They are not easily upset and can be a point of stability for others.

When Imbalanced:

  • Kapha imbalance can lead to physical symptoms such as weight gain, fluid retention, allergies, and fatigue.

  • An individual may experience a feeling of heaviness in the body or mind.

  • They may have a tendency toward oversleeping, sinus congestion, and poor digestion.

  • Emotionally, one might struggle with letting go, possessiveness, and depression.
